Council tax - for renters and buyers
This calculator is brilliant! One thing I wasn't clear on is whether the council tax is considered for both renters and buyers. In the UK, tenants typically pay both rent and the council tax. Does this calculation assume the tenant would rent a home similar to the one they purchase and as such pay the input council tax under the buying section or is this cost currently missing from the renting portion of the calculation?

Thanks so much - and great catch. You were right: at the time you wrote in, council tax was only being counted on the buying side, which slightly skewed things toward renting for UK users. We've just shipped a fix. For the UK, the calculator now assumes you'd rent a comparable home and applies the same council tax to the renting side too. Because it's the same figure on both sides, it cancels out and no longer biases the comparison, which is the fair result. We've also updated the on-screen note and the "How it works" page to make the assumption clear. Really appreciate you taking the time to flag it
